May 12th, 2007
News Tuesday May 1, 2007 KUALA LUMPUR: The International Council of e-Commerce Consultants (ECCouncil) wants to increase the number of certified ethical hackers in Malaysia, and to boost awareness of such professionals.   "Keeping up with technology and understanding how firewalls or networks function is one thing," said Erik Laykin, EC-Council's honorary chairman. "  But a capable IT security professional should also know how a hacker thinks."   He said government agencies and corporations are always looking for talented IT professionals who understand security technology and hacking.     "When a professional is certified as an ethical hacker, it shows he knows what he's doing and that would definitely give an employer more assurance (of the professional's skills," Laykin said.  He is a former president of the FBI's (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Los Angeles Chapter of Infragard, and specialises in the investigation and analysis of security-related issues in cyberspace, such as digital theft and corporate espionage.    Laykin was ...

May 12th, 2007
News Monday April 30, 2007   CA Inc (formerly Computer Associates) will continue to acquire companies to strengthen its base and work with partners to grow its business in Asia, said president and chief executive officer John Swainson.    He said the growth potential in Asia was huge but still small compared with other regions such as the US and Europe where information technology (IT) was ingrained.   In Asia, some markets were matured but others still emerging and Swainson believes "CA is unique, for it has a total product offering for customers to manage, govern and secure networks."   CA is in almost all markets in Asia and claims to be the world's fourth largest software company.   Asia-Pacific and Japan contributed 11%, or US$400mil, to group revenue of almost US$3.8bil last year.   Swainson does not expect the region to show much change in revenue contribution this year.  "We expect the contribution to be about the ...

News Wednesday April 11, 2007By SIM LEOI LEOI PUTRAJAYA: The computers of the Immigration Department and several core government agencies will not be allowed to fail in times of emergency or crisis.  Malaysian Administration Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu) ICT security division director Wan Mohd Rosdi Wan Dollah said the departments would be classified as critical national ICT infrastructures and the information stored in their computers was of utmost importance to the country.  "The issue here is that computers in these agencies must not fail. Once these agencies have been identified as Critical National ICT Infrastructures, we will station teams of computer emergency response officers at these places," he told The Star here yesterday.  Besides the Immigration Department, other agencies include the National Registration Department which keeps the personal data of all Malaysians; the Customs Department; and airport operations – where there is heavy reliance on computers.  Wan Mohd Rosdi said the emergency response ...
